Apple’s September 7th event, brought the latest and greatest technology to the table for the 2016 and 2017 period.  This years big player was the iPhone 7, which was highly anticipated by many. Improvements in the design, camera and functionality were noticed.

The camera system saw huge improvements on the iPhone with the release of the 7 and 7 Plus models. The 7 includes a 12 megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization as well as an upgraded 7 megapixel camera, up from 5 megapixels on the 6s. Perhaps the most notable change comes on the 7 plus with the addition of a telephoto lens alongside of the normal wide angle. This new lens is capable of hardware zoom up to 2x and software zoom up to 10x.

The home buttons on this year’s model are no longer physical buttons. Instead they use Apple’s Taptic engine seen on the 2015 Macbooks for a button like feel.

On the new 7 and 7 Plus, the antenna bands are no longer jutting across the device but instead wrap around the corners of the device. This design makes the antenna virtually undetectable on the new Black and Jet black color options Apple now offers. The camera lenses are visibly larger on the new devices as well.

Apple has finally made their flagship devices IP67 compliant allowing the iPhone to be submerged in 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes.

Perhaps the most controversial change was the removal of the headphone jack, but Apple combats the backlash with the inclusion of a 3.5mm jack to lightning adapter as well as lightning headphones in the box. Apple also unveiled new wireless AirPods starting at $159 and shipping in October.

As well as the iPhone, the Apple Watch Series 2 was announced along with an updated Series 1 model. The Series 2, starting at $369 sports a new dual core processor with built in GPS for tracking activity. It is also water resistant up to 50 meters. The Series 1 comes updated with the dual core processor and starts at $269. Apple has also silently killed off the 10,000+ Apple Watch Editions and replaced them with an all new ceramic case model starting at a much lower price of $1249.

Both the iPhone 7 and Apple watch models began delivering on Friday, equipped with the new iOS 10 and watchOS 3 operating systems.
