From relaxing on the beach to competing in the Irish-Step Dance Nationals, the students of Westerly High School took part in numerous activities over the course of the summer.
Summer calls for countless possibilities here in Westerly. School gets out, vacations are planned and it is time to unwind!
A majority of the students spent time with friends and family while others traveled out of state. Without the stress of school work and the previous agony of cold weather, the freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors of WHS thoroughly enjoyed their two and a half month break.
How did the students of Westerly High School spend their summer?
Freshmen Aiden Faubert, Michael Fiore and Mark Gervasini all seemed to have a similar summer agenda. Chilling on the beach and hanging out with friends was only the start to their summer fun.
Gervasini enjoyed spending time by his pool while Faubert took the opportunity to shred the waves on his surfboard. Although Fiore spent lots of time on the beach as well, you could most definitely find him on the football field preparing for the season.
Freshmen girls Julia Garro and Jessica Calabrese spent their vacation with family and enjoying time with their friends. “This summer I attended lots of volleyball practices to prepare for tryouts and be as ready as possible,” said Garro. “I enjoyed going to Watch Hill with family and friends and going to the Blues on the Beach concerts. My favorite part of summer was going to Block Island.”
Calabrese explored different parts of California with her mom, sister and brother. During her 3 week trip, she visited various tourist attractions and was able to see some of the most breathtaking views of mountains across the Pacific Coast Highway. “I traveled to the most beautiful cities like San Francisco and San Diego. In Los Angeles, I was lucky enough to visit extraordinary landmarks such as The Walk of Fame and even the Hollywood sign.”
The freshmen had a lot to say, but sophomores Zachary Phelps, Ciara Flood and Faith Bailey did not fall far behind in their summer activities. Phelps traveled up to New Hampshire to hike with his family while Flood and Bailey both competed in dance competitions.
Flood flew to Orlando, Florida for the North American Irish-Dance Championship, while Bailey went to New York City to compete in the Tremaine Dance Competition. She competed with two of her best friends and was able to see a Broadway show with her dance studio. “Dancing in New York with my friends would definitely be one of the best highlights of my vacation”, says Bailey.
Most of the seniors of WHS seemed to spend their summer working and soaking up the sun at the beach. Senior Stephanie Muccio spent her summer vacation working and hanging out a the beach whenever she got the chance. Her favorite part of her break was going on a trip to Florida with her family.
As we know, these students spent their summer having fun doing what they love and taking a break from the stress of school. From the freshmen to the seniors, most hung out with their friends and family, went to the beach and relaxed as much as possible in order to make the best out of their vacation.
The students of WHS surely made lots of memories during the summer of 2016 which will create great stories to share for years to come.
